Economy Tourism Spend API

Scrape Economy Tourism Spend data with one API call. Returns annual spending by a country's residents on tourism trips of one night or more, broken down by what the money went on, from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Categories are `total` (excluding durables), `transport`, `restaurants`, `accommodation`, `package` (package arrangements), `other` and `durables`. Filter by `purpose` (`personal` or `business`), by `destination` (`domestic`, `foreign` or `world`), and choose whether to read the `total` spend or the average `per_trip` or `per_night`. Values are in euro (not millions). Results come back as `data.series[]`, one per country and category, each with `points[]` of `{ year, value }`. A year Eurostat has not published for a country is `null`, never 0. The response echoes the `purpose`, `destination` and `measure` that were applied, plus `dataset`, `unit` and a `source_note`. This is spending by residents of the reporting country (the demand side), not spending received by a destination.

Last updated October 2026Maintained by the SocialCrawl team

Returns yearly spending by a country's residents on trips of one night or more, split into transport, accommodation, restaurants and other categories, in euro.

How do I get travel spending by country from an API?
Send GET /v1/economy/tourism-spend with country_code set to the travellers' home country, for example DE. Each series is one country and spending category with year and value points in euro. Add purpose, destination and measure to slice it further.
Which spending categories are returned?
total (excluding durables), transport, restaurants, accommodation, package for package arrangements, other and durables. Leave category out to get all seven, or pass a list such as total, accommodation, transport.
Can I separate business trips from personal trips?
Yes. Set purpose=business or purpose=personal, with total as the default. You can also set destination to domestic, foreign or world, and measure to total spend, average per_trip or average per_night.
Is this spending by visitors or by residents?
By residents of the reporting country on trips of one night or more, the demand side. It is not the money a destination receives from visitors. Values are in euro, not millions.
Why is a year null instead of 0?
A year Eurostat has not published for a country is null, never 0, so missing data is never confused with zero spending.
How much does one tourism-spend call cost?
1 credit on the standard tier, whatever the number of countries or categories. New accounts get 100 free credits with no card, and a repeat within the 24 hour cache costs 0 credits.
