How we compute this

SocialCrawl reads the public retweet count for a curated basket of historically most-retweeted posts via /v1/twitter/tweet, then ranks them by the live share count (X still stores this as retweet_count; the product UI now says repost). 23 tweets were ranked on 2026-09-02. The basket is drawn from posts already known to sit among the most retweeted, not an exhaustive scan of every post on X, so it answers which of these has the most retweets rather than surveying the whole platform. X publishes no official ranking. The count is the live retweet total, not a historical peak: Guinness recorded 5,455,411 in January 2019, and un-retweets plus deleted accounts have since lowered live totals. Several of the all-time records are cash or prize giveaways whose mechanic is follow-and-retweet to enter; that is a real count, and this page does not filter those posts out. Quote tweets are stored separately and are not counted as retweets. Long giveaway tweets are shown as their first sentence in the table; the verbatim body is kept in the snapshot. The most liked post named here is the most liked of these 23, not of X as a whole, and a photo-only post with no caption is labelled by its @handle. A deleted tweet cannot be ranked, because the API returns no share count for it, and this page never backfills a stale number. Every count is read live, never estimated.
