Sprout Social Alternative: Suite or Data API
The Sprout API is on the $399 Advanced annual plan per seat. Listening has no public price. A Sprout Social alternative is a suite. Export is a separate buy.
A Sprout Social alternative is a publishing suite when the job is scheduling, approvals, and the inbox. The same search points at a data API when the job is export or cross-platform search. On the Sprout pricing page, re-read on 21 October 2026, the API row is Advanced only, at $399 per seat on the annual card. Listening and Premium Analytics have no public price. SocialCrawl is the data path for that second job. It does not schedule, publish, or replace the inbox.
What are the best Sprout Social alternatives?
- Scheduling, approvals, the inbox, and reviews: stay on Sprout Standard or Professional, or move to another suite in the price table. A data API does not do that work.
- If the complaint is the seat price and the team still publishes, compare Buffer's per-channel yearly card, Agorapulse's annual per-user cards, and Hootsuite's FAQ figures. The prices in the table were read from the vendor pages on 21 October 2026, and Hootsuite's billing period is still unlabeled.
- If the blocker is export, a warehouse, or cross-platform search, Sprout's row labeled "The Sprout API and Helpdesk integrations" is on for Advanced and off on Essentials, Standard, and Professional.
- If the buyer wants listening inside a product UI, Sprout sells Listening as an add-on from Standard up, with no public price.
The pages behind those bullets were opened on 21 October 2026. Sprout's pricing response carried Last-Modified: Wed, 21 Oct 2026 16:37:38 GMT. Buffer, Hootsuite, Agorapulse, and the credit-pack pricing page returned HTTP 200. The Sprout API docs at api.sproutsocial.com/docs timed out, so there is no endpoint list. Gartner returned 403 and is not a source.
Which Sprout Social alternative costs less?
The table is a price matrix, not a ranking. Sprout's pricing page prints annual per-seat cards for Standard, Professional, and Advanced. Essentials is the only card that also prints a monthly rate. Suites are in US dollars. The credit packs are in GBP, with no conversion. Sprout publishes per-seat cards, not a team bundle, so there is no yearly headcount total here.
| Sprout Social | Buffer | Hootsuite | Agorapulse | SocialCrawl | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Card used | Annual per seat, 21 Oct 2026 | Yearly card at 1 channel | FAQ figures. Billing period not stated | Both toggles present in the HTML | Credit packs, not seats |
| Entry | Essentials $79 per seat/month, and $99 per seat/month billed monthly | Free, then Essentials $5/month ($60 billed yearly) | Standard $99. Meta line: starting at $99/user/month | Standard $79 and $99 per user/month, "Save $240/year" | 100 credits for $0 |
| Next cards | Standard $199, Professional $299, Advanced $399, Enterprise custom | Team $10/month ($120 billed yearly), unlimited users | Professional $199, Advanced up to $399, Enterprise custom | Professional $119 and $149. Advanced $149 and $199. Custom is tailored | 2,500 credits £15. 20,000 credits £49. 150,000 credits £299. Enterprise custom |
| Profiles or accounts | 5 / 5 / unlimited / unlimited | Free: 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts each, 1 user | Standard 10 accounts. Professional and Advanced unlimited | 10 / 10 / 10 / unlimited | Not a profile seat |
| API on the opened page | Advanced only | Free card lists 3,000 requests/month. Paid cards in the extract do not print a quota | Not in the plans-page extract | Custom only | 1 credit on a standard call, 5 or 10 on heavier calls, 20 for universal search |
An earlier Sprout Social pricing note asked how annual and monthly billing differ. This extract has that question and, except for Essentials, not the answer. Standard, Professional, and Advanced in the table are the annual cards only.
Essentials is 5 profiles. Inbox, keyword monitoring, location monitoring, and reviews start at Standard, not on Essentials. Standard is $199 per seat per month on the annual card, still 5 profiles, and it includes Trellis. Professional is $299, with unlimited profiles, tagging, competitor, tag, and paid insights, and Enhance Post. Approvals, bulk scheduling, the Instagram grid, and Facebook, X, and Instagram competitor reports start there too. Advanced is $399, still unlimited profiles, and it adds Enhance Reply, inbox and review sentiment, the Sprout API and helpdesk integrations, care reports, and spike alerts. BI integration, scheduled report delivery, chatbots, and CSAT/NPS are Advanced only. Enterprise is custom.
History runs none, then 90 days, then full, then full. Brand keywords per group run none, then 10, then 10, then 20. The trial is 30 days, no card, and the trial line says "Annual billing." The page's meta line says pricing starts at $79 per month.
Premium Analytics and Listening are add-ons "to the Standard plan and up," and the page does not print a price for either. Influencer Marketing says "No Sprout plan required," also with no price in the extract. Trellis is 100 credits per seat per month on all four priced plans. The tooltip names Trellis Plus and prints no price. The FAQ asks how Trellis credits work. That answer was not in the extract.
Buffer's $5 and $10 are the yearly-card figures. A monthly-billed dollar amount was not in the extract. The free card is 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, 1 user, and 3,000 API requests a month.
Hootsuite's cards rendered no dollars. A footnote says displayed prices are annual. The FAQ lists Standard $99, Professional $199, and Advanced "up to $399," and it never says those three figures are the annual rates. Listening tiers sit in the Hootsuite section below.
Agorapulse prints both toggles. ($99-$79) times 12 is $240, which matches "Save $240/year," so the lower Standard figure is the annual one. The Professional "Save $360/year" and Advanced "Save $600/year" lines follow the same gap. Extra profiles print as "$10$15/month" with no label for which number is which. API access and sentiment are Custom only.
The credit packs do not expire, and the page lists no monthly fee. The calculator on that page reads "20,000 credits · £49." The page also shows 8,000 beside 20,000 and 50,000 beside 150,000, with no label, so those two are not priced here. A standard call is 1 credit, heavier calls are 5 or 10, and universal search is 20. Each key allows 600 requests a minute and 50 concurrent requests. Empty pages are refunded. A call with no credits returns HTTP 402 and the code INSUFFICIENT_CREDITS. The page does not list a calendar, an inbox, approvals, or seats.
The reviews below are about seats and gated add-ons. A G2 filter for "expensive" returned 328 reviews. The mention tags Expensive (470) and High Pricing (415) are larger than 328, so they are a different count. They are not that filter, and they are not a share of all reviews. No unfiltered star rating was retrieved.
Gerardo E., Paid Ads Manager, small business, left 5 stars on 18 July 2026. The review is marked organic. He wrote: "It's pricing it's 100% a deal breaker."
Katelyn Jiyoon L., CRM Team Lead, mid-market, left 3.5 stars on 23 July 2026. The review is a seller invite. She called seats and premium features "relatively high," and wrote that "deeper listening or analytics" need a higher tier.
A verified non-profit user, mid-market, left 4 stars on 27 July 2026, also a seller invite. They called the product "extremely expensive," said Trellis credit spend is opaque, and they still schedule, report, listen, and moderate. Two of the three quotes are incentivized. None of them describe leaving for a data API.
Who competes with Sprout Social?
Sprout Social competitors on the suite side of this search are Hootsuite, Zoho Social, Agorapulse, Sprinklr, and Brandwatch. A Zoho price was not part of the 21 October extract, so none is printed here. Sprinklr and Brandwatch show up as enterprise suite and listening names. Neither was priced from a page opened on 21 October 2026. Buffer stays in the price table because its pricing page was opened. It is a per-channel scheduler. Suite listicles also name Statusbrew, Metricool, Sendible, Dash Social, and Meltwater. They are not priced here, and they do not get their own sections.
Sprout's profile tooltip on the same pricing page counts Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn company and personal, Pinterest, WhatsApp, Google Business, TripAdvisor, Glassdoor, and Yelp. Analytics, messaging integrations, and ad accounts do not count toward the cap. Hootsuite's and Agorapulse's caps are the account and profile numbers in the price table. Their network lists were not in the pages used here.
On 22 October 2026, stats.generated.ts listed 674 endpoints and 69 platforms. Universal search on that registry fans out to 16 platforms and 19 sources. The credit-pack page says "Universal search across 69 platforms." That line conflicts with the registry, so 69 is not the search coverage used here.
| Sprout | Hootsuite | Agorapulse | SocialCrawl | |

Sprout includes the inbox, keyword monitoring, and reviews from Standard, unlimited profiles and competitor reports from Professional, a 30-day trial with no card, and Trellis at 100 credits per seat per month on the four priced plans. The API is Advanced only. Listening and Premium Analytics have no public price. Essentials has no inbox.
Buffer's yearly per-channel card and Hootsuite's included Standard listening are on their pricing pages. Hootsuite's billing period for the FAQ figures is unpublished. Agorapulse's API and sentiment wait for Custom, and the extra-profile price is an unlabeled pair.
SocialCrawl fits export and search. Credits do not expire, the free pack is 100 credits, and there is no seat fee. The pricing page lists no scheduler, no inbox, and no approvals. Community management is a poor fit.
How does Sprout Social compare with Hootsuite?
Sprout Social vs Hootsuite is a suite-to-suite comparison. Both sell per user. Sprout's annual cards after Essentials are $199, $299, and $399 per seat. Hootsuite's FAQ lists $99, $199, and up to $399, with the billing-period conflict from the price table. Those two ladders are not labeled with the same billing period, so a cheaper label would be a guess. The figures here come from the plans page opened on 21 October 2026. Seat math beyond that FAQ is the Hootsuite pricing post.
Sprout's inbox, keyword monitoring, and reviews start at Standard. Essentials is a scheduler without that inbox. Hootsuite Standard includes listening. Sprout Listening is the unpriced add-on from Standard up. The two listening lines are different SKUs, and there is no Sprout dollar to subtract from Hootsuite's. Hootsuite Professional adds a 30-day Quick Search and a 90-day forecast. Enterprise listening is 13 months and "powered by Lumen."
Hootsuite Standard lists 10 accounts, then Professional and Advanced are unlimited. Sprout stays at 5 profiles through Standard and removes the cap at Professional. A wider set of options is in Hootsuite alternatives.
When do you need a social media insights tool?
On Sprout's pricing page, the social media insights tool sold as an add-on is Social Insights. That bundle is Premium Analytics plus Listening, attached to Standard and up, with no public price. The brand-keyword monitor is a different row: none on Essentials, 10 on Standard, 10 on Professional, and 20 on Advanced.
There is no Sprout endpoint list, no webhook catalog, and no Sprout rate limit here. The docs timed out, and the pricing page does not print one.
The pricing matrix marks "Automate workflows with integrations (Sprout API)" off on Essentials, Standard, and Professional, and on for Advanced.
The Zendesk marketplace listing, opened 21 October 2026, says the connection "is available on the Advanced Plan" and covers creating and resolving tickets.
Funnel's connector article says the Sprout plan must include API access, and "Your Sprout account representative has to enable API access." Funnel also says the API does not return paid or ad data, competitor data, or profile management. LinkedIn personal profiles return posts only. Google Business Profile, Threads, and Bluesky are unsupported. X needs X's approval, requested through Sprout. Reach and followers "can't be added up."
The Advanced card can list the API while a representative still has to enable access. Both appear on public pages. Funnel documents its own connector. Sprout's API docs timed out, so there is no object list from Sprout.
What does one response format replace?
Sprout's response schema is not published. The SocialCrawl API is credit-priced and returns one response format across the platforms in the registry note above, with no suite UI around it. There is no field-by-field score against Sprout, because a Sprout field list was never retrieved. If the gap is listening inside a suite, the next page is best social listening tools. Sprout's Listening price is still unpublished, so it cannot be lined up against the tools in that roundup.
When is the suite easier than an API?
A Sprout Social alternative is easier as a suite when the person using it lives in the social inbox. Sprout's inbox, keyword monitoring, and reviews start at Standard. The approval workflow and bulk scheduling start at Professional. A social manager can reply, route a post through approval, and hand finance a per-seat price without assembling those screens.
A manager on Essentials is still outside the inbox. Keyword monitoring, location monitoring, and reviews arrive at Standard, $199 per seat per month on the annual card, still at 5 profiles. Approvals and bulk scheduling arrive at Professional, $299, where profiles also become unlimited. The credit-pack page sells requests, 1 credit on a standard call and 20 on universal search, and it lists no calendar, inbox, approvals, or seats. The suite is the easier screen for community management, client approvals, and publishing. Rows for a product or a warehouse are the case where the API is the shorter path, because that output was never a shared inbox.
When should you keep Sprout Social?
- If the team schedules, approves, replies, and reports inside one UI, keep Sprout or buy another suite from the price table. The non-profit G2 review still does those jobs while calling the price extreme. A data API does not replace that screen.
- If the complaint is seats and the work is still publishing, compare Buffer's per-channel yearly card, Agorapulse's annual cards, and Hootsuite's FAQ figures. Leave Hootsuite's billing-period caveat on that comparison.
- If the team wants listening inside a suite, Hootsuite Standard includes listening and Sprout's Listening add-on has no public price. The roundup linked above is where that search continues. One of the two prices is missing, so they cannot be ranked against each other.
- If the blocker is an API or an export, Advanced is $399 per seat on the annual card, a representative may still have to turn the API on, and Funnel's limits are the only published shape of what comes back. SocialCrawl is the data buy, and the inbox stays on a suite.
- If the team is small, Essentials at $79 is 5 profiles and no inbox. The first Sprout inbox tier is Standard at $199. For a small team, the realistic Sprout Social alternative is a suite with a calendar. The data API is the wrong tool for that job.
- If the buyer is an agency with many clients, Sprout Professional is unlimited profiles at $299 per seat on the annual card. Agorapulse stays at 10 profiles until Custom. Hootsuite Professional and Advanced list unlimited accounts, with the billing-period caveat from the price table. A credit-priced data API is not a client inbox and not a white-label report tool.
Keep the suite when the work is the inbox, buy a data API when the work is export, and treat Listening as unpriced until a number is on Sprout's pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a realistic Sprout Social alternative for a small team?
Essentials is $79 per seat per month on the annual card, with 5 profiles and no inbox (Sprout pricing). Standard is $199 on that card and is the first tier with an inbox. Buffer's yearly card is $5 per month, $60 billed yearly, at one channel (Buffer pricing). A data API does not give that team a calendar.
Which Sprout Social alternative costs less and still has analytics?
Sprout competitor reports start at Professional, $299 per seat on the annual card. Listening and Premium Analytics have no public price. Hootsuite's FAQ lists Standard at $99 with listening included, without saying if that figure is annual. Agorapulse sentiment is Custom only, so the $79 annual card is not a sourced match for those competitor reports.
How does Sprout Social compare with Hootsuite for publishing?
Both are per-user publishing suites. Sprout keeps profiles at 5 until Professional, where the cap becomes unlimited. Hootsuite Standard lists 10 accounts, and Professional and Advanced are unlimited. Sprout's inbox, keyword monitoring, and reviews start at Standard, not Essentials. Hootsuite Standard includes listening. Sprout Listening has no public price. This comparison does not pick a publishing winner.
Can a social media insights tool replace Sprout Social reporting?
No, when reporting means Sprout's dashboards, inbox, and approvals. The Social Insights add-on bundles Premium Analytics and Listening, with no public price, from Standard upward. A data API can cover export and search only. Sprout's API sits on the Advanced row, the official docs timed out, and there is no endpoint inventory.
Which Sprout Social alternative fits an agency with many clients?
Sprout Professional is unlimited profiles at $299 per seat on the annual card. Agorapulse lists 10 profiles on Standard, Professional, and Advanced, and unlimited profiles on Custom. Hootsuite Professional and Advanced list unlimited accounts, at FAQ prices whose billing period is not stated. A credit-priced data API is not a client inbox or a white-label report tool.
When is the problem an API or export limit, not the scheduler?
Sprout's API row turns on at Advanced, $399 per seat on the annual card. The Zendesk app on that plan creates and resolves tickets. Funnel says a representative must enable API access, and the API omits paid data, competitor data, and profile management. The docs at api.sproutsocial.com timed out, so there is no endpoint list.
